Mira Levand Bergsland is recognised for her leading expertise in insolvency and bankruptcy law.
Since 2012, she has advised on both judicial and out-of-court restructurings, as well as a broad range of insolvency and bankruptcy matters. Mira acts for banks, financial institutions, private companies and listed entities, and has extensive experience from complex restructurings in the oil and shipping sectors. Her particular areas of expertise include debt restructuring and refinancing, corporate reorganisations, protection of creditors’ interests, secured lending and security rights, and the preparation of finance and security documentation, including loan and pledge agreements.
She also has substantial experience in enforcement proceedings, including forced sales, evictions, applications for attachment, and related litigation. In addition, Mira has extensive experience as a bankruptcy trustee and has been involved in several of Norway’s largest bankruptcy estates over the past decade. Since 2022, she has been appointed as a bankruptcy trustee by the Oslo District Court.
In addition to her insolvency practice, Mira advises property companies, property owners, developers and other businesses on real estate matters and transactions. She has in-depth knowledge of standard brokerage agreements and broad experience in drafting sale and purchase agreements, residential and commercial lease agreements, and bid documentation. She has also led a number of due diligence processes in real estate transactions. Her practice further includes ground lease issues, tenancy law, and planning and building law, and she frequently advises condominium associations and housing cooperatives. Mira also has experience with the so-called “housing cooperative model”, including the conversion of rental properties into housing cooperatives and related legal issues.
Mira is the author of the commentary to the Norwegian Wage Guarantee Act, published by Universitetsforlaget, and of the legislative notes to the same Act on Lovdata. As of 1 January 2025, she serves as a member of the Norwegian Bar Association’s legislative committee for bankruptcy, composition, security rights, enforcement and debt collection.
